2006
TeamWalk Connections
A special time (Connection) to meet others concerned with HSP or PLS, share stories, learn,
have fun and walk, roll or stroll together in a walkathon (TeamWalk) to bring us one step closer to our cure!
In 2006, we held TeamWalk Connections in ten states. Read the
summaries and see photos here:
Oregon - Eugene,
September 23, organized by Karen Long
The TeamWalk Connection was held at Alton Baker Park
Note from Karen (in center of photo at right):
"Our first TeamWalk walkathon to raise funds for research for
HSP/PLS was quite successful. The event was held at Alton Baker Park in Eugene,
Oregon on a beautiful sun filled day.
Approximately 40 people were in attendance and were able to choose a three mile or a
six mile walk along the Willamette River. After the walk we
had snacks, gave away
some great gifts and sang our theme song with the writer Mary Prevost.
It was wonderful to make new friends and bring more awareness to HSP/PLS and our
effort to find a cure.
Special thanks to local businesses for their support: A Beneficial Massage,
Emerald Produce, Fiddler's Green Golf, River Ranch Restaurant, and Signs Now.
With everyone's help, $4000 was raised toward 2007 Research Awards."
Tennessee - Nashville, August 26;
organized by Jim Sheorn, SPF Board Member
The Lunch Connection was held at the Corner Pub and the
TeamWalk was held at the Centennial Park
"The Nashville TeamWalk was
small but so nice. Enjoyed lunch with everybody! Chelsea led
the walk, with Eddie coming last on his scooter (he says so
he could pick up any stragglers--but Jim said it was for
another reason--which shall remain within the group)!!!"
--Marcia
"The get-together was good. The fellowship of those who
suffer with this stuff is so inspiring to me personally. One
new attendee was 14 year
old Chelsa."
--Eddie
"Here's a photo taken when Chelsea was at the TeamWalk.
They had a great time and she raised $800 herself!"
--Jamie (Chelsea is in the middle on the front row of
the photo on the left below)

There is currently no treatment to prevent, stop or reverse
the degenerative process in PLS or HSP. These diseases attack
one’s ability to walk, often leaving their victims in
wheelchairs. They can also rob people of the ability to use
their hands and arms, and even to speak or cause other neurological problems as well. The
Spastic Paraplegia Foundation is the only organization in the Americas that is
dedicated to raising funds specifically for HSP and PLS
research. The organization is 100% volunteer managed and the
TeamWalk For Our Cures is the national, community event to
raise funds for research.
