We completed the 3rd Annual Nashville TeamWalk and 1st
Annual 2 Steppin' to a Cure on Sunday, Oct 21st.
We had a small group that met for the TeamWalk Connection meeting. Three
families attended for the first time. One with a PLS focus and two with HSP. We
spent most of the time introducing them to what the SPF does and answering
questions. It sounds like two of the families will get involved in future
endeavors.
Over 150 people attended the 2 Steppin' to a Cure. It was a smaller group than
we expected. We hope to find a location next year that has Friday or Saturday
night available so more people will be able to attend. Terri McDonough put a lot
of hard work into making the event happen. One of the attendees is in a band
that plays rock and roll cover tunes. He is in the process of making their
performance on December 1a fund raiser for SPF.
We are still in the process of collecting some outstanding donations. Once we
are done, we hope to have collected $10,000 –Jim Sheorn

The Texas Two Step TeamWalk in Houston was an enjoyable weekend. We started with
dinner Friday evening with 15 getting together for dinner. Saturday morning 32
participants met at the park for the TeamWalk. One of the participants has a
granddaughter who had TeamWalk participants write their names on the back of her
TeamWalk shirt. She proudly wore it as she walked the walk with her grandfather
and other family members.
There were two families who had sort of reunions with many family members in
attendance. It was good to see the family support. One couple drove from the
Dallas area to Houston which is at least a seven hour drive one way, and they
made the round trip in one day!! This was their first contact with others going
through the same changes in life.
To me, in addition to raising funds for research, this is another important part
of TeamWalks and lunch connections. I remember my first time meeting others, and
it changed my approach in dealing with a rare disorder. Do you remember your
first contact?
A big THANK YOU goes to Brad and Nancy for their time and work involved. -
