An invaluable tool for research is the brains and spinal cords of deceased people with movement disorders such as HSP and PLS. The National Institute of Health has made it possible for the Brain Bank at the University of Miami to support the cost of removal and transport of these donated organs from yourself or loved one's post mortem. Scientists worldwide will have access to samples of these tissues for many years to come as they strive closer and closer to a cure. About the University of Miami Brain Endowment Bank:

The University of Miami’s Brain Endowment Bank is a National Institutes of Health (NIH) NeuroBioBank, one of six designated biorepositories in the nation. The Brain Bank supports medical and scientific researchers who study the human brain in search of better medications and treatments, prevention, and ultimately, a cure. Brain donation after death supports the health of the next generation. The University of Miami Brain Endowment Bank provides family members with neuropathology reports or brain autopsy reports. These reports provide a comprehensive look at the brain at time of donation. This ensures that the family can be absolutely certain of the disease process their loved one suffered from.
