SPF’s Revised Research Grant Program RFP Is Now Available

The Spastic Paraplegia Foundation is pleased to announce the release of its revised Research Grant Program Guidelines and Request for Proposals (RFP).

The updated RFP reflects SPF’s commitment to building a more coordinated research portfolio that connects scientific discovery with therapeutic development, clinical-trial readiness, and meaningful benefits for people living with HSP and PLS. Insights from the Global Regulatory & Scientific Forum held during SPF’s 2026 Annual Conference in St. Louis played an important role in shaping these revisions.

The new guidelines provide greater clarity regarding SPF’s research priorities and emphasize scientific, translational, pathway-focused, collaborative, and clinical-trial-readiness opportunities that can help advance treatments and cures.

Investigators who submitted proposals during SPF’s previous grant cycle are invited to revise and resubmit their applications under the updated guidelines. All new and resubmitted applications must comply fully with the current priorities, requirements, deadlines, and submission instructions.

We encourage all prospective applicants to carefully review the complete Research Grant Program Guidelines before applying.

SPF is excited about the opportunities this revised program may create for the HSP and PLS research community, and we look forward to receiving proposals that can help accelerate progress for patients and families.

Submittal deadline: October 1, 2026, 5:00PM CT. If you have not received acknowledgement within ten (10) business days, please re-submit the proposal. Email your proposal to: Research@SP-Foundation.org
