Occupational therapists (OTs) do much more than work in clinics. They help people stay healthy, independent, and engaged—right in their homes and communities, where life truly happens. By focusing on the activities that matter most to you, OTs offer practical solutions and insights into how conditions like HSP and PLS affect daily routines, meaningful participation in life, and overall quality of life.

Dr. Nancy Carlson, Ph.D., OTR/L, is a licensed occupational therapist with over 40 years of experience and an Associate Professor of Occupational Therapy at Elizabethtown College. Her research centers on evaluating quality of life for older adults and individuals with degenerative neuromuscular conditions. As a Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS), she is passionate about helping people live well—especially as they age.

Dr. Carlson combines her personal journey with her professional expertise to support people living with degenerative neuromuscular disorders. She regularly connects with individuals and leads interactive workshops on Successful Aging in 55 plus communities. Inspired by her partner’s experience with HSP, she now shares her knowledge and strategies with the HSP and PLS community.
