The SecureRide Coalition is led by United Spinal, General Motors and the National Coalition for Assistive and Rehab Technology (NCART). Coalition partnership provides outstanding engagement and collaboration with key stakeholders throughout the transportation sector and the wheelchair and wheelchair securement industry, impacting an organization’s goals both directly and strategically. SecureRide’s current focus is defining a wheelchair securement standard that is safe, automated, efficient and compatible across various modes of transportation. This includes wheelchair securement in autonomous vehicles. It will make universal access to health, work, and community engagement for wheelchair users more achievable. All of this means independence for the wheelchair user. SecureRide leverages a wide range of organizations with specific working knowledge of products, securement systems and requirements to fully develop, test and publish standards, and advocate for policies that support them. SecureRide’s Partnership program seeks to expand to organizations inclusive of the disability community and/or which provide support for improving accessible transportation solutions. This includes a broad ecosystem of support with disability and veteran’s advocacy groups and networks, research universities, certifying bodies and standards groups, Federal agencies, the current administration and the United States Congress. Partners will be invited to provide feedback from their membership on SecureRide initiatives, provide appropriate letters of support and generally participate in advocacy plans and events to amplify advocacy efforts.
